Salzburg, Austria.

The Sound of Music.

The Sound of Music is a musical adapted from the life of Maria von Trapp.  The film, shot in Salzburg, Austria, was produced in 1965 and starred Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.   To recap your memories here's a short video to start off :)

After spending a few days in Vienna, Austria my mother and I took a train up to Salzburg.  We went on a Sound of Music Tour, touring around the town to all of the filming locations.

Our trendy bus.

The heart of Salzburg, the Hohensalzburg Castle built in 1077.

Leopold's Crown Palace, used as the inspiration for the terrace scenes at the rear of the Captain's villa overlooking the lake, where Maria and the children stood up in their boat and fell into the water.

The Glass Gazebo, is where Rolf and Liesl sang "Sixteen Going on Seventeen", and Maria and the Captain sang "Something Good".

Thirty minutes outside Salzburg, in the Alps.

The Wedding Church in Mondsee in the Lake District.

In real life, the Captain and Maria were married in the Nonnberg Abbey where Maria was a novice.  This abbey church was not big enough for filming the wedding scene, so this church was chosen for the romantic scene.

The town of Mondsee.

Mirabell Gardens.

The Mirabell Steps (The Do-Re-Mi Steps.)  Here, Maria and the children use the steps as notes on a musical scale as they jump to the top.

The Central Fountain of the Mirabell Gardens, where Maria and the children were filmed having fun circling the central fountain.

Athletic Statues at the Mirabell Garden Entrance, they were filmed with Maria and the children imitating their poses as they were all enjoying some fun skipping around the gardens in "Do-Re-Mi".

Peek-A-Boo!

Ivy Covered Archway.  Woohoo!

All in all, my mother and I had an incredible trip.  We laughed, reminisced, and talked about our futures to come.  I will remember this trip for my entire life, and will be comforted by our new memories when ever I feel homesick :)
