Oktoberfest has been all the hype here in Europe. As you all likely know, Oktoberfest is a 16-18 day beer festival held in Germany (the main event takes place in Munich,) and is held at the end of September to the first weekend of October. Apparently, around 5 million people attend each year. My very lucky roommate, Alex, had the opportunity to go to Munich for the weekend.. and experience the wonder that is Oktoberfest. Down in Munich, the streets are full of German music, authentic food, German costumes, and heaps of beer. Most people camp out in tents for the festival, which begins promptly at 8:00 AM each day. Alex reported back that it was the time of her life, but she is ready for a shower and some TLC.
Back in Denmark, we had a faux Oktoberfest at the Studenthus. Entry was 25 DKK ($5) which included a liter glass mug (which we can keep,) and first round of the Oktoberfest beer. It was sooo delicious, but considering it was a liter I could only finish one! The night consisted of German music & dancing, socializing and yelling SKUL (cheers, in Danish) before every drink.. literally.
I managed to get a few photos, not the best quality but good enough to see what i'm talking about :)
The enormous mugs.
My Polish friend Karolina and I.
SKUL!
Sending my love from DK.
